The 48-year-old ex-postman from Chichester, West Sussex, is recovering after the surgery stapled part of his stomach in order to curb his food cravings.
Mason has been bedridden for the last eight years and was eating 20,000 calories a day.
It is eight times the maximum requirement for adult men.
It is believed Mason used to gorge three family-sized takeaways in a night.
He has come under fire in his home country after it was revealed his health care bills cost the taxpayer $179,000 a year.
